Ultrasonic Plastic Assembly System
This Ultrasonic Plastic Assembly System which is good for most applications, is composed of
a welding press, a power supply and
an optional digital linear encoder.
Welding Press

The welding press is rugged, compact and virtually maintenance free. To ensure reliable performance over prolonged periods, the carriage utilizes adjustable Thomson linear ball bushings and precision ground shafts. The press complies with OSHA requirements and features dual non-tiedown start palm buttons. To facilitate horn to part alignment, the converter/horn assembly snaps in and can be rotated 360°. Stroke speed adjustments provides for maximum versatility in controlling the carriage rate of descent. The 21" x 14" work surface assures unimpaired movement of large complex parts.

The Power Supply is designed to start under extremely heavy loads. Since there are no mechanical relays, circuitry is protected from current overloads in nanoseconds, preventing failures from short circuits or cracked horns. Plug-in printed circuit boards are modular for easy replacement.

Operational parameters and pretrigger controls are easily entered on the front panel keypad. Up to ten jobs can be programmed, stored and run from units which are remotely positioned. Digital timers control Delay, Weld, Hold, and Re-Pulse Time. A two-line, backlit alpha-numeric readout panel displays all timer functions and the total number of welds completed.
Optional Digital Linear Encoder
Available with Digital Linear Encoder for greater control of precision welding operations.
  • Weld to pre-determined depths with accuracy up to ±0.001 inch (0.025 mm).
  • Setpoint: Absolute or Incremental.
  • Pre-weld Conditions, e.g., part missing or misaligned.
  • Post-weld Report, e.g., overweld/underweld.
In addition to timing controls and total welds per cycle, the linear encoder displays absolute or incremental setpoints, and pre- and post-weld conditions. 		The Absolute Mode measures the total stroke distance. Ultrasonics are activated by pretrigger control or when the part is contacted by the horn. Ultrasonics are terminated when the programmed distance is achieved. In the Incremental Mode, the digital linear encoder begins to measure the travel distance and activates the ultrasonics when the horn contacts the part and applies a specified amount of pressure to the assembly. Ultrasonics are terminated when the pre-set distance has been traveled. In either mode, digital control ensures that the welded parts meet the pre-determined height or penetration depth specifications.
